PP XPAND 'X' 657
A specially formulated high quality wholly aqueous based printing paste designed to give a three dimensional raised print on heating.

  • miscible with aqueous based pigments.
  • good stability and runnability.
  • moderate fastness properties.
  • novel effects possible.

PP Xpand X 657Up to 1000
**PP Pigment Dispersion30 - 0(optional)
PP Activator AC030820 - 10(optional)
PP Humectant ZXM10 - 0(optional)
**  For coloured effects the addition of pigment is recommended up to a maximum of 30 g/kg.  Over addition of pigment and auxiliaries may reduce the degree of raise on heating.

Simply blend thoroughly under a high speed mixer (preferably without the introduction of air and taking care not to generate heat) the PP Xpand 'X' 657, pigment dispersion and auxiliaries as required.
PP Activator AC0308 (or alternatively, low formaldehyde types) can be added if desired to give enhanced wash durability, for example, for goods which require repeated laundering.
The runnability of the system should give optimal performance without further modification, however, dependent upon the customer's application conditions, flow may be improved by an addition of PP Humectant ZXM or Glycerine.
To reduce viscosity water may be used up to a maximum of 2%.
To increase viscosity the addition of up to 0.5 - 1.0% of PP Thickener PHS may be used, adjusting the pH with Ammonia to pH 8 - 8.5 where necessary.
Printing Recommendations

The choice of screen mesh or engraving depth should be selected relative to the desired effect.
                   eg:     rotary          60 - 80s mesh
                                                135 Penta
                             flat bed        > 42 th/cm
The degree of expansion is also determined by the quantity of PP Xpand 'X' 657 applied to the material.  It is, therefore, advisable to apply in the final screen to ensure that there is no 'crushing' of the print.
Drying / Curing
The print will expand during the drying stage at temperatures of approximately 120ºC - 125ºC.
To achieve satisfactory fastness the resultant print must be cured at 130º/140ºC for 2 minutes to a maximum of 150ºC for 1 minute.
The raised prints are susceptible to excessive temperature and it is important not to exceed the stated temperatures in subsequent processing or the raised prints will collapse.
